Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are calling for that a individual who breached a barricade and touched the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
