Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, looking back. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, high nineties, otherwise we don’t win it."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," he conceded. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager addressed his squad right after the final whistle. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it's fine," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, it means that every season annually," he commented.
