Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
