The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
